| We believe that we have a responsibility to the
environment and to the community here in Herodsfoot. We can't
claim to be a 'green' business - but we do try! |
In recognition
of our contribution to sustainable tourism we have
received a SECTA Green Acorn Award - click
here for more details. |
We ask guests
to take a moment to read this statement and to think about the
ways they can help us.
Things We Do -
- We recycle paper, cardboard, bottles and aluminium cans.
- We compost all our garden refuse and collect leaves for
leaf mould.
- We try to avoid the use of chemicals in the gardens.
- We manage our land sympathetically and only cut hedges
every 2-3 years.
- We have changed over to low-energy bulbs for main
exterior lighting.
- We buy in bulk and use local suppliers and contractors
wherever possible.
- We have fitted showers in all cottages.
- We support our local community - particularly All Saints
Church. Although we are not church members ourselves, All
Saints is the centre of our community and provides the
only public space for concerts, lectures and other events
in the village. You will find a very warm welcome if you
attend any of the events in the village.
Things You Can Do During Your Stay -
- Please recycle - a box for paper and bin for other items
are in the laundry.
- Please 'bag and bin' sanitary items and nappies.
- Think about supporting local shops and Cornish produce
suppliers.
- Enjoy our lovely countryside - take a walk and enjoy the
peace and quiet!!
More information -
We provide more information in the leaflets in each cottage
and in the laundry. IF YOU NEED ANY INFORMATION DURING YOUR
STAY AND CAN'T FIND IT - PLEASE JUST ASK - WE'LL BE HAPPY TO
HELP.
The Discovery Centre in Looe (Millpool Car Park) is an
excellent source of information and the staff there can help
you really make the most of the countryside and coast of this
part of Cornwall.
Walks
In the laundry: Walks from Tresarran leaflet, various
walking books and OS maps for loan (please return after use).
Programme of guided walks led by Mark Camp at WalkaboutWest
(recommended).
Cycling
In the activities folder in the laundry, details of bike
hire, cycle routes in SE Cornwall and the Camel Trail.
Public Transport
None in Herodsfoot! But we are close to the Liskeard - Looe
railway line (can be combined with various walks through the
Looe Valley) and the Hoppa bus which links various attractions
during the summer. Details, again, in cottages and laundry.
It's also worthwhile considering travelling by train into
Plymouth (from Liskeard), particularly during the summer.
